Chore Chart

It took us a few tries to find a chore chart that worked for our family.
We finally settled on this method and it works great for us.
Each kid has a large hook under their name, when they do a chore during the week, they put the corresponding tag on their hook.
By the end of the week all of the chores need to be completed and the tag put on one of their hooks.
It works out great because nobody has to do the same chores from week to week and everyone has a choice of how hard a job they want to do that day depending on homework and after school activities.
I made this out of a spare piece of MDF that we had.  I painted it white and screwed in the hooks.
I found the tags with holes already punched in them at a local craft store, but they would be easy to make with some card stock and a hole punch.
This method also works great because the chores can be changed easily by adding or taking away one of the tags.
I give the kids a set amount of chore money each week.  Half they can keep and the other half goes into savings.  But, it would be very easy to assign a dollar amount to each specific chore.  Then your kids could be paid more for the harder chores and less for the easy ones.
It also works out well for our family to give them chore money.  They now know that they have to save up for any toys or games that they want to buy.
This works great for us.
What chore chart do you use?

Stairway Before and After

This was the only "Before" picture that I could find of the stairway to the basement.
It was not pretty, so I didn't take a lot of pictures of it!

Caramel Ice Cream Pie

I love this recipe for Caramel Ice Cream Pie!
I found it in the newspaper a few years ago.
I love it when new recipes work out and are worth saving.
This is a delicious summer time treat.

Upstairs Bathroom

This is the bathroom off of the kitchen.
Not very big or very exciting, but definitely the bathroom that gets used the most!

Taco Soup

I love this recipe!  It is so easy and good.  Everyone eats it.  I even threw it all in the crock pot on low for about 4 hours the other day and it worked out perfectly.  We like it with sour cream and grated cheese on top.  You could even serve it with tortilla chips.  Very yummy!

Master Bathroom Before & After

This bathroom was just the upstairs bathroom when we bought our house.  We "stole" the closet space from the room next to it and changed the doorway so that it connected to the master bedroom and master closet.  We also put in a steam shower.  I wasn't sure whether it would be worth the extra cost, but we love it!  We use it all year long.  It is especially great when the kids have a cold.  They can stand in there and let the steam do it's work!  We would have a hard time living without one now.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is the recipe that comes printed on the can of oatmeal.  I love it and use it all of the time.  I believe that the original recipe is for oatmeal raisin cookies, but we add chocolate chips instead.  It is important to remember to add flour for high altitudes or your cookies will turn out flat.
I make this dough and bake a cookie sheet full and then refrigerate the extra dough, so we can easily make warm cookies when ever we want them.
Much cheaper and better than store bought cookie dough!

IKEA Pillow Mattress

Southern Disposition shows how to make a really cute IKEA pillow mattress.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find the $0.99 pillows at my IKEA.  Oh well, I guess it saved me some money on this shopping trip!
I will look again next time.

Picnik Photo Editing Site

I have found this great photo editing site called Picnik.  It is so easy to use!
I can quickly add text to my pictures before I post them.
Best of all, it is FREE!
I love this site!  You should definitely check it out!

Funeral Potatoes

I love these potatoes.
It is a definitely considered one of our "State Dishes".
They even made a replica of it for an Olympic pin!
And no, they don't have to only be eaten at funerals!
I think that it makes a big difference to use fresh potatoes instead of frozen potatoes from a bag.
Very yummy!

Tooth Fairy Door

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this Tooth Fairy Door that Smart Bottom Enterprises made!
I really need to make a trip to Hobby Lobby to get the supplies for this
(and a hundred other projects that I want to make)!

Master Bedroom Before & After

The after picture of the master bedroom is taken from a different angle than the before picture.  We changed the location of the doors so much that I think that this is the best shot to take the picture.  The window that you see in the before picture is now the door in the after picture.  We are hoping to put a deck out there soon.  I can't wait to have some outdoor living space attached to our room and I am sure that we will be "camping" out there on warm summer nights.
