I found this recipe on another blog (I am sorry, I don't remember where).
My kids love it and I love that I can make it in the bread maker!

It is not too early to start thinking about teacher Christmas gifts.  How Does She has a great 12 Days of Christmas Idea!
I love how it gets the kids excited about giving!

Girl's Bedroom

Here is the before and after of my daughter's bedroom.  It originally had a door to the outside, which was not a good thing!  So, we moved the door to a hallway and put up her color choice, which was a lot of PINK!

Great Man, Great Memories

I have been trying to sort through my my husband's and my childhood boxes of memories.  I came across this letter that the author Bill Peet had sent me when I was nine.  I remember being so excited when I got it!  Now, we have on-line fan clubs and facebook pages.  How many kids today will get a written letter from someone that they look up to?

Picnik Photo Editing Site for Halloween

I have mentioned how much I love Picnik before,
but the more I use it the more I find to love!
It is so easy to use and it is FREE!
For some reason, most of the pictures I take are lopsided.
Who knows why I can't hold a camera straight?!
But Picnik has an easy fix that lets me rotate the pictures just enough to account for my bad photography skills.
They have some awesome spooky effects that you can add to your pictures for Halloween.
Here is one that my kids and I put together.
  Vampires and Zombies!
How creepy!
Seriously, go try Picnik!  I'll bet that you love it too!

LOTS of Halloween Fun!

Every Wednesday I share one of my many book marked sites that really inspire me.  I am running out of time to post all of the great Halloween projects, so today I am showing three great projects by Be Different Act Normal

The first is so easy, but so cute!

The second project takes a little more work,
but I think that even I could handle it.

The last project is the most difficult,
but it would make your house look very spooky this Halloween!

Family Room

A before and after of our family room.  We spend a lot of time in this room, especially in the winter when we get a fire going in the wood burning stove!

Annie Chun's Roasted Seaweed

I got my second sample from Moms Meet.
This time we got to try Annie Chun's Roasted Seaweed.
Once again they were very generous!  We got a lot of great samples for our family to try.  We had the rice noodles, brown rice and thai sauce for dinner this week.  We LOVED the rice noodles!  They are definitely something that we will buy!
We were given lots of the Wasabi and Sesame Roasted Seaweed to share.  My daughter's friend loved it!  My neighbor thought that it would be really good sprinkled on rice.
It was a good opportunity for my kids to try something new!
Thanks again Moms Meet!

Halloween Spider Jello

Jello is a favorite around our house.  We have it every Sunday.  My daughter and I have become obsessed with this Spider Jello Recipe that we found on Brett Bara.
There is even a great tutorial link on how to make a jello mold.
We have to try this!

Another before and after of our house.
This room went through a HUGE change!

Turkey Pot Pie

This is my son's favorite dinner, he even chooses this for his Birthday meal!  It is pretty easy, especially if you are using refrigerated pie crust.  It is also a great way to make a new meal of left-over turkey or chicken.

Spelling Word Necklace

Cap Creations has a great idea for practicing spelling words and turning them into a necklace.
I think that this would be great as a bracelet too.
Love it!  I need to make a trip to the craft store and buy some alphabet beads!

Basement Playroom

We added a cute little play room under our basement stairs.  My kids like to call it the clubhouse.  The cousins (especially the girls) love to play in here.  We even cut down a door and have a half size entry, so it is meant just for kids!

Disneyland Butterfinger Brownies

A year ago we were in Disneyland, so I am having a little bit of a withdrawal right now!  I wish we were there celebrating Halloween again.
A neighbor of mine told me about the Butterfinger Brownies that their family loved to get at Disneyland.  So after doing a little research and finding nothing I emailed Disneyland's customer service.  They were so nice and replied back to me quickly.  They told me that the recipe was not available but a cast member gave me her recipe.  It is so simple and yummy!
Don't you just love Disney?!

Halloween Place Mats

Every Wednesday I try to share one of the many projects that I have book marked.  a little of this, a little of that made these cute Halloween place mats last year and I have been obsessed with them ever since!
She even tells how she protects them with clear acrylic protectors.
I love her blog and I'm always inspired by it!

Basement Kitchenette

It was kind of hard to find a before picture of this area of the house.  We moved so many walls and changed things so much.  Basically we gutted the basement and started over.  This corner of the basement became a small kitchen.  I will be so grateful to have this when we start the remodel of our upstairs kitchen!

I recently found this recipe on the internet.  I don't remember where I got it from, but if it is yours let me know so that I can give you credit.  We love this recipe!  It is so yummy!

Halloween Hand Soap

I just have to post about Oopsey Daisy's cute idea!  I love her Halloween Soaps!
I keep going back to her site, I just can't get over it!
I don't have a Silhouette and she makes me want one really bad!

Family Rules

We have had a problem around here with tattling and not doing chores correctly (if at all).  So, in order to help make our house a cleaner, more peaceful place, we have come up with some family rules.
Once the rules were printed out and placed around the house, we had to figure out a way to make sure that they were followed and consequences if they weren't.
I bought some of these colored craft sticks from the dollar store.  I made sure to get enough packages that I would have 50 sticks for each kid.  I then found some empty plastic jars and labeled them.
When a rule is broken, a stick is taken out of the "offender's" jar and put in to mine.  Each stick is worth 10 cents, so at the end of the week they get the appropriate amount of allowance based on how many sticks they have left in their jar.
This method seems to be working.  They like to be able to see how well their week is going just by looking at Mom's jar!  I was inspired by Hogwart's house point system.  Now all I need is a magic wand to remove the sticks as needed!

Salt Dough

My daughter had a map project due this month.  We made this salt dough recipe that she had brought home.  We loved it!  It was so easy and it was a really good consistency for projects.  My son needed some salt dough for school this week to make a volcano, so we used this recipe again.  He came home and told me how his dough was the best in the class!
Try it out.  We were really impressed!

Bottom of Stairway Before & After

Once again, this was the only "Before" picture that I could find of this space.  It was not very exciting, so I didn't take a lot of pictures of it.  But I would say the after is a huge improvement!

Kashi TLC Granola Bar Review

I was lucky enough to be invited by Moms Meet to review the Kashi TLC Peanutty Chocolate Layered Granola Bars.
It was fun sharing them with family, friends and neighbors.
My kids loved them and they are healthier than the granola bars I usually buy.
They are definitely a great after school snack!
We also received a box of Kashi Cinnamon Harvest cereal and a box of TLC Ripe Strawberry Soft-Baked Cereal Bar.  We haven't tried the cereal yet, but it looks like something my husband would love.  The TLC Ripe Strawberry Soft-Baked Cereal Bars are very good.  When I open one I have to eat it fast, or one of the kids will take it!
Check out Kashi's Facebook page or website and learn more about these great, healthy products!  They also have tips and good advice on helping your kids eat better and who couldn't use some help with that?!

I received this product for free from the sponsor of the Moms Meet program, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer.  As a Moms Meet blogger, I agreed to use this product and post my opinion on my blog.  My opinions do not necessarily reflect the opinions of May Media Group LLC or the manufacturer of the product.

This recipe for carmel popcorn is so easy, you don't even need a candy thermometer!
It turns out soft and gooey!  So yummy!

Bunk Bed Lights

My daughter just got a long waited for bunk bed.  She wanted the top for stuffed animals and a reading area.  But, now the bottom, where she sleeps, is a dark cave.  So, I brainstormed and remembered that I had bought some rope lighting on clearance after Christmas last year.  One rope light and some twist ties later, she has a lighted area above where she sleeps that she loves!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

Fall is fast approaching!
Time for some yummy pumpkin cookies.
This recipe is huge!
I usually freeze some after they have been baked and pull out more when we need them.

Sweet and Spicy Barbecued Brisket

I love this recipe for barbecued brisket,
it is another recipe I found in the newspaper.
It is yummy and so easy!
I like to serve it with Funeral Potatoes.
Everyone in my family will eat this, so it is a perfect meal!

Chore Chart

It took us a few tries to find a chore chart that worked for our family.
We finally settled on this method and it works great for us.
Each kid has a large hook under their name, when they do a chore during the week, they put the corresponding tag on their hook.
By the end of the week all of the chores need to be completed and the tag put on one of their hooks.
It works out great because nobody has to do the same chores from week to week and everyone has a choice of how hard a job they want to do that day depending on homework and after school activities.
I made this out of a spare piece of MDF that we had.  I painted it white and screwed in the hooks.
I found the tags with holes already punched in them at a local craft store, but they would be easy to make with some card stock and a hole punch.
This method also works great because the chores can be changed easily by adding or taking away one of the tags.
I give the kids a set amount of chore money each week.  Half they can keep and the other half goes into savings.  But, it would be very easy to assign a dollar amount to each specific chore.  Then your kids could be paid more for the harder chores and less for the easy ones.
It also works out well for our family to give them chore money.  They now know that they have to save up for any toys or games that they want to buy.
This works great for us.
What chore chart do you use?

It was not pretty, so I didn't take a lot of pictures of it!

Upstairs Bathroom

This is the bathroom off of the kitchen.
Not very big or very exciting, but definitely the bathroom that gets used the most!

Taco Soup

I love this recipe!  It is so easy and good.  Everyone eats it.  I even threw it all in the crock pot on low for about 4 hours the other day and it worked out perfectly.  We like it with sour cream and grated cheese on top.  You could even serve it with tortilla chips.  Very yummy!

Master Bathroom Before & After

This bathroom was just the upstairs bathroom when we bought our house.  We "stole" the closet space from the room next to it and changed the doorway so that it connected to the master bedroom and master closet.  We also put in a steam shower.  I wasn't sure whether it would be worth the extra cost, but we love it!  We use it all year long.  It is especially great when the kids have a cold.  They can stand in there and let the steam do it's work!  We would have a hard time living without one now.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is the recipe that comes printed on the can of oatmeal.  I love it and use it all of the time.  I believe that the original recipe is for oatmeal raisin cookies, but we add chocolate chips instead.  It is important to remember to add flour for high altitudes or your cookies will turn out flat.
I make this dough and bake a cookie sheet full and then refrigerate the extra dough, so we can easily make warm cookies when ever we want them.
Much cheaper and better than store bought cookie dough!
